PhotoHunt: Broken

You know I love the beach, salt air, waves, Cape Cod, ocean, shells -- especially broken shells. I'm not sure if it's the image they conjure of 'not being perfect' and that's just fine with me.

When I first visited Hawaii in the early 70s, I was surprised to learn there are no sea shells, as I know them on the East Coast, on their shores. Puka shells and deep ocean conch shells, and such are available - but not the shells of the sea - scallops, fishermen's toenails, mussels, clams.....

I love seashells, broken or not. Didn't know that they don't have them in Hawaii! I love beach glass too. Nice photo!

How odd and interesting that there are no seashells in Hawaii. I imagine I am used to much the same ones you are, being just a bit further north in Nova Scotia!

I used to collect seashells when I lived on the mainland. You can find them here, just not so many and they are smaller for sure. I have found quite a few on Kauai though. I think the reef breaks them up.

I didn't realize there were no/few shells in Hawaii until you mentioned it. Shells are not great here in the Pacific NW either. You are fortunate to be able to find nice one where you live.
