Review of An Italian Affair

I thought I would finish the book before I gave you my thoughts, but I really don't see that the tempo or depth of this book will change in the next 18 pages.

Generally, I don't comment if it's a negative reaction, but some of you expressed an inkling to maybe reading it based upon my initial excitement about this book. So, here goes.

From the first line of the book, this memoir quickly went downhill. It's hard for me to read a book written in the third-person (or is it second-person: /you/). This autobiographical travelogue is written in the same vein as Eat, Love, Pray, which I thoroughly enjoyed as light reading. But it lacks the multi-dimensional writing and descriptive prose of Elizabeth Gilbert.

Sorry to be such a downer on this one. Hopefully my next selection, The Sixteen Pleasures, will be a better read.

Hi Flygirl, I'm sorry to hear that this book was not enjoyable for you. Thanks so much for sharing your review and thoughts on it. I hope that your next book will be more enjoyable for you. I am honestly not the most dedicated reader and a book has to be really interesting for me to pick it up so I really appreciate reading reviews on interesting books.

Thanks so much for taking the time to share your thoughts. Have a wonderful day.

That's too bad -- but thanks for the review! I won't rush out to pick this one up (anyway, I'm getting absorbed in the whole "Girl with the Dragon Tattoo" trilogy)

Thanks Kathy and Sandra! Sandra, I went through Steig withdrawal after the third book - envisioning who would play each character in a movie and wanting the fourth book out soon...Hope you enjoy it thoroughly!

Pretty much the same way I felt. I loved The Sixteen Pleasures so I hope you enjoy that one a lot more than TIA.

I recently read the new book about marriage by Elizabeth Gilbert. I enjoyed it but not as much as Eat, Pray, Love.

Too bad you didn't like it. I could not get into Eat Pray Love. Tried a few times. Maybe after the movie comes out... ?
