Yogi-ism

The "Dreaded" Yankees opened their new stadium and had a classic throw out the first pitch, Yogi Berra.

He was quoted as saying, “I think they’ve got too much room in the clubhouse. It’s an awfully big locker room. To me, if you want to talk to a guy, you’ve got to walk a half a mile.”

I chuckle when I see anything to do with Yogi Berra. About 12 years ago, Yogi was on campus for a dedication. The start of the festivities were delayed while we tried to locate Yogi, who was lost on campus. To this day, we are still not sure how he got lost .. but he was found 1/2 hour later. Unfortunately, I did not get a chance to meet him, but my immediate boss was seated with him.

She returned to the office after the event apologizing because in the commotion of losing and finding Yogi, she forgot to ask him for an autograph for my son, who was an avid baseball player (a catcher) and a fan.

I didn't have the heart to tell him Yogi was on campus until many months later.

Some Yogi-isms: A nickel ain't worth a dime anymore. All pitchers are crybabies. Baseball is ninety percent mental and the other half is physical. He hits from both sides of the plate. He's amphibious. And last but not least: I never said most of the things I said.

Too bad you didn't get that autograph for your son. Love his quote about the new locker room!
