Orvieto

Girasoli's blogging about her upcoming trip to Italy and her itinerary choices, which include Orvieto, reminded me of my travels there in 2006. Two of my friends and I separated for part of our time in that lovely medieval city. One sat across from the cathedral with her husband and enjoyed a bottle of vino, one circumnavigated the city with her sister and I was treated to a private tour with a newly made friend from Italy. Upon our return home and sharing photos, we each had taken a photo of this woman in the market. And, she has appeared, I am told, on Samantha Brown's show and other travel shows. So, you may meet her if you travel to Orvieto on market day. She's quite a quiet superstar! Andiamo!

When I go there I am going to look for her and try to get a photo. Looks like she enjoys the camera :) Where in Orvieto is the market? Oh and when is market day?

Hi Flygirl, love your photos of this wonderful woman. If I were to visit Orvieto one day, I would want to look for her too. Great photos! Thanks for sharing and posting these photos and sharing your travel story.

Thanks for your comments! The Orvieto superstar is warming up to all those cameras, I'm sure. Market day is Thursday and she was located just to the left as you entered the market from the piazza! What a hoot!~

What a marvelous coincidence! She's very photogenic. Have you read "The Lady in the Palazzo" by Marlena de Blasi? Wonderful book, set in Orvieto.

Trekcapri - Definitely put Orvieto on your itinerary and if you have time Civita di bagnoregio - same area and both wonderfully medieval cities - Civita tho you need to get to by foot...So much to see, so little time! Menehune

Shucks. Thursday will be my jet lag day (day after I arrive). I will probably go there on Friday or Saturday. I still might spot her though!
