A Loss

My friend lost one of her best friend this week - her ex-husband. You can empathize and sympathize and be present but wonder if that is ever enough comfort? It's the tumultuous well of sadness you feel when someone you love is so grief-stricken.

Joan and Tommy had a unique, maybe a contemporary, relationship. Although divorced and living all aspects of their lives apart, they still remained best friends. His death was unexpected and much too suddenly for Joannie. She had recently undergone foot surgery and he visited her daily to spend time with her while she was immobile.

So for Joannie, my dear friend:

May the stars carry your sadness away,
May the flowers fill your heart with beauty,
May hope forever wipe away your tears,
And, above all, may silence make you strong. ~Chief Dan George

Much love.

Thank you for your comments. Friendships can be soothing at a time like this. Tommy was a friend to me as well, having spent many 'formative' years with him.
